Sometimes I have a backdrop that I have to resist using because it just becomes a favorite! I have already posted this one recently, but since my little model Pharrell the Lykoi was so adorable that I decided to turn it into a post anyway! 🙂
Settings- Nikon D810 & Sigma 35 1.4 Art Lens. Shutter Speed 1/125, ISO- 100, F/8. The backdrop is sold HERE.
I know many times I go over the top with props, necklaces, and backdrops, but sometimes just simple black with a focus on the model is nice. I wanted to try for a “hair lighting” effect for this session with my kitten model “Dire”. At the bottom of the post you will find a behind the scenes photo as well as my settings as usual!
I changed out the black cloth backdrop and floor drop, but left the lights in the same position for the next image with Dire’s sibling-
Now for the behind the scenes info! This was a two light set up, and is shown here-
My camera is the Nikon D810 and my lens is the Sigma 35 1.4 Art…which is nearly the only lens I use in studio with pets! My settings were mostly the same and were- ISO-79, Shutter Speed 1/100, F/10. My images are always edited in Photoshop. These were mostly edited completely by hand, but I did use several of the tools from Chasing Light Chemistry Set. They provide quick adjustments to speed up editing workflow :). The purple backdrop is found HERE. The black backdrop and floor cloth were from the fabric store (I like the velvet and crushed velvet best!).
If you have never been to a cat show, I highly recommend you go to at least one! You will never be around a larger group of cat adoring fans..not to mention kitties of every shape, size, color and personality! These are just a few of my favorite images!
All images shot with my Nikon D810 and either my Sigma 85 1.4 or Sigma 35 1.4 Art. All with natural light. I tend to carry a small wand in my back pocket or inside my boot and will jingle them to get the cat’s attention. Do make sure that the owner has a good group on their kitty before letting the cat see your toy or you may get a face full of playful kitty. Also keep in mind to not let the cats touch your toy or pet the adorable kitties unless the owners offer. Cat illnesses are easily spread and most owners take many precautions to keep their kitties in tip top shape! The wand shown in the video clips below are from Ceylon’s Wand-erland. She has so many beautiful styles available HERE. They are a cat photography MUST (also they work for most small children and some dogs as well! LOL).
Here is a video with more images and some Lykoi video clips. Enjoy!
